even just; not even

だに means even just doing the minimal thing, often pairing with verbs like 想像する or 考える. Attach it to a verb's dictionary form or a noun. With a negative it means not even, stressing an extreme.

  Sonna jiko ga okoru to wa, souzou dani shinakatta.

  I never even imagined such an accident could happen.

• 考かんがえるだに恐おそろしい。
