even though; although

といえども means even granting that something is true, the expected consequence does not follow. Attach it to a plain-form verb/adjective or a bare noun. It is formal and literary, conceding a point before countering it.

Examples

• 専門家せんもんかといえども、間違まちがえることはある。

  Senmonka to iedomo, machigaeru koto wa aru.

  Even an expert can make mistakes.

• 子供こどもといえども、油断ゆだんはできない。

  Kodomo to iedomo, yudan wa dekinai.

  Even though he's a child, you can't let your guard down.
