because; the reason is that (excuse)

ものだから gives a reason, often as an excuse or explanation for something the speaker couldn't help. Attach it to a plain-form verb/adjective, a noun/na-adjective with な. It conveys that the cause was beyond the speaker's control.

• バスが来こなかったものだから、遅おくれました。

  Basu ga konakatta mono dakara, okuremashita.

  Because the bus didn't come, I was late.

• あまりに眠ねむかったものだから、寝ねてしまった。

  Amari ni nemukatta mono dakara, nete shimatta.

  Because I was so sleepy, I ended up falling asleep.
