thanks to; owing to (a good result)

おかげで credits a cause for a positive result, expressing gratitude. Attach it to a plain-form verb/adjective, a noun with の, or a na-adjective with な. It is the favorable counterpart to せいで.

Examples

• 先生せんせいのおかげで、合格ごうかくできました。

  Sensei no okage de, goukaku dekimashita.

  Thanks to my teacher, I was able to pass.

• 薬くすりを飲のんだおかげで、よく眠ねむれた。

  Kusuri o nonda okage de, yoku nemureta.

  Thanks to taking medicine, I slept well.
