反面 contrasts two opposite sides of the same thing (convenient on one hand, expensive on the other). Attach it to a plain-form verb/adjective, a noun with である, or a na-adjective with な. Both sides describe the same subject.

Examples

• 都会とかいは便利べんりな反面はんめん、家賃やちんが高たかい。

  Tokai wa benri na hanmen, yachin ga takai.

  The city is convenient, but on the other hand rent is high.

• この仕事しごとは楽たのしい反面はんめん、責任せきにんも重おもい。

  Kono shigoto wa tanoshii hanmen, sekinin mo omoi.

  This job is fun, while the responsibility is also heavy.
