according to; in response to

に応じて means something changes or adapts to match a varying condition (according to income, in response to demand). Attach it to a noun; the modifying form is に応じた. The following clause flexibly matches the noun.

  Shuunyuu ni oujite, zeikin ga kimaru.

  Tax is determined according to income.

• 客きゃくの希望きぼうに応おうじて、料理りょうりを変かえます。
